Consistent Practice: The Real Creative Superpower
There’s a well-known story in the NBA about the legendary shooter Stephen Curry. He didn’t become the greatest 3-point shooter of all time by accident. He got there by practicing. A lot. Thousands upon thousands of shots, every day, for years. Not just when he felt like it. Not just during game season. Every single day, whether anyone was watching or not.
In fact, shooting coaches say that just taking 10,000 intentional practice shots can lead to a 5% increase in shooting accuracy. It’s not magic. It’s not luck. It’s repetition. Practice. Discipline. Showing up again and again.
This exact same principle applies to your creativity.
We tend to romanticize creative flow. We wait for inspiration, thinking we need the perfect mood, the perfect time, the perfect notebook, the perfect playlist. But the truth is: creative breakthroughs don’t come from waiting. They come from committing to the practice, even when you don’t feel like it.
The 1% or 15 Minute Rule:
I love this mathematical equation:
There are 1,440 minutes in a day.
1% of that is 14.4 minutes. Round it up, and we’re talking about 15 minutes.
15 minutes is 1% of your day.
Fifteen minutes of journaling.
Fifteen minutes of reading.
Fifteen minutes of meditation.
Fifteen minutes of drawing, painting, or any other form of creative expression.
That’s it.
Most people scroll for longer than that without even thinking about it. But if you gave just 1% of your day to your creative wellness - intentionally, consistently - that would shift everything over time. It’s about committing to a practice. It’s about presence. It's about repetition. It’s about creating a routine, a habit.
The same way Steph Curry built his muscle memory by showing up to the gym before anyone else, you can build creative memory by making your practice non-negotiable. Whether it’s writing, breathing, drawing, walking in nature, or reading a physical book, your daily creative practice trains your nervous system to trust that it’s safe to express, explore, and expand.
Why It Works
Because it compounds.
Consistency creates momentum.
Momentum builds confidence.
Confidence leads to clarity.
Clarity reveals alignment.
And alignment is where your most authentic creative work comes from.
Consistent practice in 15 minute increments is the foundation for Curating a Life that is a Work of Art. I’m not here to sell you 'life hacks' or overnight transformation, that's not realistic. I’m here to help you create a daily practice that supports the kind of life you actually want to live. A life that is authentic. A life that is creatively expressive. A life that feels like art.
You Just Need to Start.
If you can commit to investing just 1% of your day (15 minutes) to your creative wellness (whatever that looks like for you) you are already shifting your trajectory.
Because you’re not chasing a result. You’re embodying and practicing a way of being - Creativity.
And that way of being, over time, becomes your life.
