This is a hosted, multidisciplinary Artist Residency for women at any stage of their creative practice.

The Residency is self funded and self directed.

Exclusively offered to 3 Residents.

The Residency provides a curated container for 2 weeks in a private, oceanfront location in Playa Negra, Guanacaste, Costa Rica.

Resident Artist @pepallama will be onsite to guide and inspire you to Curate a Life that is a Work of Art, but you will use your time and space here as you wish.

Exploration of both the active (Yang) and contemplative (Yin) aspects of creativity is encouraged.

There is no expectation or pressure to produce finished work during your stay.

The invitation is to slow down, to connect to the ocean and the natural world surrounding it, be inspired by a tropical paradise outside of your usual environment, and explore your creativity however you choose. You are the Artist of Your Life: Life is Art.

Located in a gated community, this oceanfront Residence with direct beach access has two levels with many areas to relax and create, with covered open air patios, hammocks, oversized tables and couches.

This is what Curating a Life that is a Work of Art is all about: slowing down in nature by the ocean in the tropics. It is the perfect location to disconnect from hustle + bustle. This large property is very private, it combines authentic Costa Rican charm and a tropical atmosphere. You will hear and see the ocean the entire time you are on the property.

The communal areas are family-style and huge, which allows both individual and collaborative creative work. The indoor studio space downstairs has a huge work table and open air porches. There is a washer + dryer, convenient bathrooms and a large kitchen. There is Fiber Optic WIFI, and the entire home has A/C.

The pool area ihas lounge chairs to unwind in the sun or in the shade, and there is an outdoor shower.

There are 3 private bedrooms on the second level. The master suite has an ensuite bathroom and the 2 private rooms share a large detached bathroom.

Consistently ranked among the happiest countries in the world, Costa Rica is known for its commitment to nature, and has had no standing military since 1948.

The Nicoya Peninsula (where Life is Art Residency is located) is one of only five recognised Blue Zones in the world, where people live longer, healthier lives.

Located on the Pacific coast of Guanacaste, Playa Negra enjoys warm temperatures year-round, averaging between 27–32°C (80–90°F)

This stretch of coastline has been my home for the past 15 years. It's where I developed the philosophy that became Curate a Life That Is a Work of Art. This place has inspired my life and work more than anywhere else on earth, and there is nowhere else I'd rather share this experience.

I will be living and working onsite as your Host, but this does not mean I will be available 24/7 or on-demand. We will have scheduled times to come together and dedicated opportunities for creative conversation, collaboration and guidance. Outside those times, I will be continuing with my own work and creative life. I ask that you understand and respect this before applying.

This Residency is self-directed and was intentionally designed to give you the time, space and freedom to focus on your own creative life. You decide how to shape your days, what you want to work on and what you want to take from the experience.

This Residency is a good fit for independent creatives who are comfortable managing their own time, following their own process and taking responsibility for their own experience.

A car is recommended as this is a rural area, and it is also your best option for arrival and departure from LIR Liberia Airport. It is about a 1.5 hour drive from LIR Airport to the Residency.

Meals are not provided. Residents are responsible for their food. There are numerous restaurants to eat at, and there are stores to buy groceries nearby.

Travel expenses, including airfare to and from Costa Rica, travel insurance and ground transportation are not included.

Art supply stores are limited, so bringing your own materials is recommended.

Partners, children, or pets are not invited.

This is a drug and alcohol-free Residency.
